Meet the Director: Richard Davies

Bourne Space is home to a whole host of brilliant businesses, but who was the brains behind this community and what inspired him to start Bourne?

So I would like to introduce you to Richard Davies, Director of Bourne.

You will see a lot more of him roaming around the different sites and even the odd stint on reception, so keep those eyes peeled and please say hello!

What motivated you to start Bourne Space?

The same reason I do most things…for the challenge.

I had been in property for 20 years (mostly residential investment & lettings) and wanted to step up a level.

Commercial property is a lot more complicated so it was a steep learning curve, despite a lot of my skills transferring over.

What’s the hardest & easiest part about being a Director of Bourne?

The tough side is the financing and compliance…there is so much complexity, rules and paperwork.

Boring!!

The easiest bit is the bit I love, which is creating awesome spaces that make people happy and being a part of that community…

What’s your main objective?

Creating awesome and sustainable spaces for people so they feel excited about coming to work…which then makes their businesses sustainable…

Do you ever experience burnout and how do you handle it?

There have been times when it has felt like too much and I start to question my sanity.

For me, the best solution is to go for a long run…it never fails to make me feel better…

Is there something about the company your most proud of?

I think it would be how we’ve taken some old / unloved buildings and given them new life.

We live in such a throwaway world…the more we can reuse stuff, the better it is for the environment.

This applies as much to buildings as it does our coffee container…
